Finding Beauty in the Blend:
My Journey of Resilience, Fabric, and Faith
Welcome. My name is Ulrike Boyo. I am a widow, mother of two, writer, and creator. Through my own experience with profound loss, I discovered a purpose: helping others see that there is life, hope, and beauty after grief.
I grew up in a small village in the Austrian Alps. After losing my father at age nine, I watched my mother raise five children with strength and grace. Her resilience became my first lesson in overcoming adversity.
My career in hospitality allowed me to travel the world, and in 2001, a visit to the United States led me to meet my husband, Jolomee. Together we built a family and later lived in Nigeria, where I fell in love with the vibrant colors and creativity of Ankara wax fabrics.
Years later, after moving to Atlanta, my life changed forever. Within a single year, I lost both my husband and my mother. Their deaths left me heartbroken, but I knew I had to find a way forward for my children and myself.
While volunteering and sorting clothing donations, I noticed large amounts of quality denim being discarded because of minor stains. Looking at those garments, I saw a reflection of my own life—marked by loss, yet still valuable.
That realization inspired my creative journey.
Today, I transform discarded denim by blending it with colorful Ankara fabrics, creating art and fashion that celebrate renewal and resilience. Each piece tells a story: what has been damaged or overlooked can become beautiful again.
Through my writing and creative work, I hope to encourage others to find strength in their struggles and discover beauty in life's unexpected blends.
